OK Tedi Mining
Terrestrial Ecology and Natural Resource Management Program
The project aim is to assist Ok Tedi Mining better understand forest dieback and associated changes in the distribution of key natural resources. We are establishing a series of permanent monitoring transects over an area of 2,000 square kilometres across the Fly River and Ok Tedi flood plains.
The project will assist with monitoring stand level changes in the flood plain forests, the identification of sensitive forests with high resource values, and the prediction of the ecosystem health for the flood plain forests.
The program will run over several years and so far, has led to the identification of some rare and sensitive forest and woodland types. In the future we will be working with customary landowners to improve management of these resources for a range of non-timber forest products.
Papua LNG Project
Baseline Studies for Total E & P
Our team led the vegetation, flora, forest, deforestation, vegetation mapping, ecosystem services, biosecurity and rehabilitation studies.
These formed part of the baseline studies for the Papua LNG Project. Booyong Forest Science provided multiple experts to conduct these diverse studies, all of which operated in remote areas of Papua New Guinea.
We also provided key team members to assist the social team conduct resource surveys of timber and non-timber forest products in collaboration with customary landowners.
